About me
I was born in Huéscar, a small town in the northern part of the province of Granada, where my basic routine was going to school, eating, and playing outside until bedtime.
Since I was little, I’ve always practiced sports—anything that came my way. I especially spent my afternoons playing soccer. It was at the age of ten when I started riding my bike with my father; we gradually did longer road routes. At fourteen, I decided to start competing because I enjoyed it and was good at it. I had no idea about cycling, but each year, I became more immersed in a world I didn’t know.

The beginning
I have had a growing professionalization as I advanced through the categories, becoming the Spanish champion and a member of the national team along the way.
A constant in this stage has been dissatisfaction: the desire to do everything as well as possible. I have had several coaches and teachers, and I have learned a lot from each of them, always in search of the best; it’s something I haven’t spared effort or resources on because I believe it’s essential for performance.
I’ve tried to take the best from each one, and I owe a part of what I am as a coach and also as a person to all of them.
I’ve always thought I was clumsy, that I learned everything through mistakes and failures, until I understood that it’s the only way to learn.
Sports is my passion and what I dedicate my whole life to. It has taught me the importance of hard work, but also that if it doesn’t go in the right direction, it’s not so useful, the value of discipline, and to keep fighting after every failure.
Sports has taught me to dare to dream. That if you pursue a goal with determination and consistency, you can achieve it, no matter how difficult it may seem. I can do it too!
It has also taught me to overcome adversity. To see it as an inseparable and inevitable part of something greater, something that makes us stronger.
Sports has taught me to love nature, care for it, and protect it; and to truly value camaraderie.
Sports has taught me that the most important thing is to enjoy the journey that leads us to achieve our goals, not just the act of achieving them.
Sports has made me strong, and despite the sacrifices it requires, I would never regret dedicating a part of my life to it.
To sports, by making it my passion, I have dedicated my academic training. Studying Sports Science has been the gateway to doing what I love. It has given me the basic knowledge, the mechanisms to keep learning, and the tools to deepen my knowledge on my own.

The science of sports and new research have become one of my greatest passions beyond the University. I am aware that science advances every day, and that constant education is necessary, without embracing dogmas.
I’m a real “nerd”: in my free time, I enjoy reviewing scientific articles, discovering new studies, and reading expert opinions on physical training, nutrition, psychology, and health.
I decided to pursue a Master’s in Human Nutrition because nutrition is directly related to performance. I realize that it is a fundamental pillar in my way of understanding sports as an integral and healthy lifestyle. Health starts in the gut.
I have always balanced my studies with cycling competition and, since 2014, with training other cyclists.
Training and competing is a way for me to assess my limits, experiment, and see how things are done right.
My experience in competition is the testing ground for the training I plan for my athletes, and it allows me to better understand their problems, feelings, and aspirations.
Taking care of others is like living their sports life as if it were my own, having another athletic career for each one of them. I care about what they train and how they feel, and I rejoice when they win as if I had won myself, or I understand their frustration as if it were mine when things don’t go as we hope.
Cycling and everything around it is my life. I balance working with my athletes with critical research, sharing what I discover through the podcast Evolutive Cycling.
I’m also passionate about Nature and everything it entails. I enjoy astronomy, botany, biology, and getting lost in the mountains of my homeland.
My greatest satisfaction right now is working with athletes who are eager to learn, willing to work, and excited to improve. I love teaching, and even more, I love learning.
